Jim “rezn8d” Lee – Open-Sourced Activist and Data Lover

"My name is Jim. I watch the sky. I'm the ClimateViewer Guy, and I don't want it all to die, so I say, Let it Grow!"

Hello, I'm Jim Lee, creator of ClimateViewer News and ClimateViewer 3D, the Google Earth climate change and real-time disaster/pollution viewer.
The ResoNation by Jim "rezn8d" Lee

In the wake of the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear disaster in March of 2011, I quit playing video games (as often) and devoted my free time to studying scientific literature in an attempt to find hard facts regarding the meltdown. I started a Wordpress blog and chose the nickname “rezn8d” to protect my identity, created some flashy graphics, and away I went.

Why choose a nickname like @rezn8d (R3zn8D)?

Pronounced: res·o·nat·ed ˈre-zə-ˌnāt Intransitive verb, past tense
  1. to produce or exhibit resonance
  2. to respond as if by resonance (resonate to the music); also : to have a repetitive pattern that resembles resonance
  3. to relate harmoniously : strike a chord (a message that resonates with voters)
Synonyms: echo, reecho, reverberate, resound, sound

Over the course of 2011 I began to form an addiction to online fear-causing literature (sometimes referred to as “fear-porn”), culminating in a near-panicked state regarding the passage of Comet Elenin between the Earth and Sun, which many “credible sources” claimed would send a solar flare our way causing untold damage and loss of life. Of course nothing happened September 26, 2011 and I felt mighty foolish. I asked myself, how could I get fooled so easily and so stressed out over something that started out as a hobby. The answer came when a friend of mine pointed me to an article entitled “The Anatomy of Slavespeak” which explained in a very matter-of-fact manner how words and fear controlled me. I did not realize the red-flags of disinformation, hype, and manipulation: high-level descriptors. With some further study on the word-control matter, I quickly realized that in almost every single category of society, there are evils that cannot be overcome due to the perception management techniques of wealthy corporations, entities, and individuals. With this realization came the need for me to employ these newly-learned techniques in an attempt to do the following:

  1. Never let fear rule my life again.
  2. Educate others on public relations techniques used against their best interests, health, and privacy.
  3. Map polluted locations worldwide, gather facts on those affected, and use those facts to combat PR techniques designed to protect offenders.
  4. Raise awareness of the use of technology to monitor, mock, and silence activists who attempt to change our current dire situation.
Sometime in 2012, I realized that my attempts to reach viewers online was hampered by my anonymity and hiding behind my anonymous moniker was just another fear I had to overcome. I dropped the rezn8d nickname and reintroduced myself: I am a 37 year-old man from Sumter, South Carolina, home of Shaw Air Force Base and the Swan Lake Gardens. I have a beautiful wife and daughter; we're poor but we are happy. I'm a self-taught web page and graphics designer, music lover, and traditional artist. I speak publicly about pollution and privacy, for the trees.

Over the past three years I have honed my coding and research skills, and what used to be a hobby has become a lifestyle. As a result, I look at my previous works and they do not meet my new standards. Therefore, I intend to remove the contents of my previous websites (rezn8d.net, rezn8d.com, and terraforminginc.com) and devote my attention to making ClimateViewer.com the most accurate, informative place to find pollution and privacy related news. Help us grow ClimateViewer, help spread the word, and help us keep the information we present as accurate as possible. Let’s clean this mess up together!

It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it. - Patrick Henry's speech at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia on March 23, 1775
There are men who fight one day and they are good, others who are fighting a year and are better, there are those who fight several years and are even more good, But there are those who struggle all their lives: they are indispensable. - Bertolt Brecht
